California Shellfish Initiative.

Good things happen when we work together. The aim of the California Shellfish Initiative is to give a voice to every interested party so that our industry can grow in a manner and direction that benefits both the environment and our local communities. Together, we hope to restore and expand California shellfish populations, provide jobs, meet the demands of consumers and, above all else, safeguard the marine environment.

The demand for shellfish in California currently exceeds supply, and, what’s more, the presence of shellfish improves water quality. The Pacific Coast Shellfish Growers Association - an industry organization that we are proud to be active members of for nearly twenty years – has invited interested parties to work together for the benefit of one and all to meet demand while improving the marine environment.

The California Shellfish Initiative is a project to restore and expand California’s shellfish resources, collaboratively.

The initiative will bring together shellfish growers, local, state, and federal resource managers and environmental leaders with the goals of: protecting and enhancing marine habitats, increasing shellfish habitat and jobs, improving agency coordination and communication, and strengthening coastal economies.
